5.1. Methodological overview

The process of learning that has been designed for this subject is based on the following:

The general methodology of the subject is determined by the organization of the course of Optometry inside of the plan of the studies of the degree. The learning of this subject starts with Optometry I and II and Laboratory of Optometry continue in Clinical Optometry.

5.2. Learning tasks

The student will achieve the required knowledge with the following activities:

1 There are three different formative activities in the subject:

Formative activities I (3 ECTS): Presentation and learning of basic contents related to the subject. The methodology will be based on lectures for all the students. Small groups or tutorials will be done if they are required.

Formative activities II (1.5 ECTS): Internship: the student will be on an internship in the different units of Ophthalmology pathology related to age in different hospitals. Students will be supervised by different teachers. The intership could be changed by simulation practice.

Formative activities III (1,5 ECTS): group laboratory sessions: the student will learn the required tecniques to diagnose pathologies.

5.3. Syllabus

The subject contents are:

Unit 1. The importance of geriatric optometry.

Unit 2. Ophthalmology diagnoses methods.

Unit 3. Cornea.

Unit 4. Lens.

Unit 5. Glaucoma.

Unit 6. Retinal vascular diseases.

Unit 7. Age-related macular degeneration.

Unit 8. Optometry exam of the geriatric patient.

5.4. Course planning and calendar

The exact dates for the beginning and end of the learning activities will be established by the University.
